He purchases a tin of pineapples with an expiration date of May 1 each day for a month. The first half deals with Cop 223, who has broken up with his girlfriend of five years. The story is really solid, the pacing is great, and all of the actors give great performances. Storyline: Chungking Express (1994) Wong Kar-Wais movie about two love-struck cops is filmed in impressionistic splashes of motion and color. There are some stages in this movie that I will remember them until death. I was so impressed of Chungking Express that I ended up watching it eleven times in cinema and few times watch online. LosMovies Review:Ĭhungking Express is the most beautiful movies of year 1994 This movie, which I free even refuse to compare with the other ones is the masterpiece created by my favorite director. I didn't find the first 1/3 interesting at all, but the last portion was captivating. Two melancholic Hong Kong policemen fall in love: one with a mysterious underworld figure, the other with a beautiful and ethereal server at a late-night restaurant he frequents. But, later, she began rearranging the house and even adding fish to his aquarium! It just kept getting weirder and weirder and it was strange seeing a lady who was less a stalker and more a lady who pleasured from living secretly in the cop's apartment while he was working! Instead of telling you more, I recommend you see it for yourself but feel free to SKIP the first 1/3 of the movie. So fascinated that she broke into his home. Then, she became fascinated with the cop (why, we don't really know). They asked me what I was watching and I honestly told them I didn't know! In the beginning, this lady spent all her time dancing to the same song again and again (and frankly, I was starting to get sick of the song California DREAMIN' as a result). In fact, I laughed at quite a few of the STRANGE things she did-so much that my wife and daughter came over to watch as well. The sheer bizarreness of the lady in the restaurant kept me watching. It somehow kept me interested and so I continued watching. In fact, I was about to turn off the video when the very weird romance (?) story began concerning the cop who had been in a relationship with the stewardess. The first 1/3 of the movie did absolutely nothing for me. Reviewed by MartinHafer 7 / 10 VERY uneven but worth watching for the story about the 2nd cop It's slightly dangerous and has a 70's exoticness. I like the labyrinthian world that has a lived-in look. He needs to add another thirty minutes for both of them and that's two movies. He has about fifty minutes for each story. These two stories could use some filler material to expand them. He could call it Hong Kong Love Stories, To Hong Kong with Love, or Red White and Blue. The filmmaker could have made this into a trilogy of love stories. As I understand it, there is a third story. I would rather have this split into two movies. In the second story, another officer Cop 663 (Tony Chiu-Wai Leung) falls for Faye (Faye Wong), the girl behind the food counter, who loves listening to her music loudly. Woman in Blonde Wig (Brigitte Lin) runs a drug smuggling operation but it goes wrong. ![]() In Hong Kong, Cop 223 He Zhiwu (Takeshi Kaneshiro) is dealing with heartbreak by searching for canned pineapple that expires on May 1st. By the end of that time, he feels that he will either be rejoined with his love or that it too will have expired forever. Kar Wai Wong helms this cerebral film that presents two similar but ultimately unrelated stories about loneliness and disconnection in the big city. ![]() Wong Kar-Wai's movie about two love-struck cops is filmed in impressionistic splashes of motion and color. ![]()
